re·splen·dent : shining brilliantly: characterized by a glowing splendor

By definition, resplendent accurately describes the love Savannah and Andres carry in their hearts for each other. It is unfortunate that life has a way of dulling the shine and keeping from glowing the way it should. Resplendent by M.J. Abraham is the love story of Peach and Dre. It is told in dual points of view, slipping between past and present, and spanning ten years. It is the tale of best friends who never doubt their love for each other. It is the story of how despite this abiding love; they can never achieve anything more than friendship.

Savannah and Andres meet in high school at a party where Savannah’s cousin Carmin introduced them. Attraction was instant for both. The only problem being Andres is Carmin’s date. This sets the stage for a Bermuda love triangle that takes a decade to navigate. It is apparent to everyone that Savannah and Andres have deep feelings for each other. It is equally apparent that Carmin staked her claim on Andres first and she is not willing to relinquish her hold on him. Knowing this and loving her cousin, Savannah makes it clear she can be no more than Andres’ friend. Andres accepts Savannah’s friendship so that he can be part of her life.

Peach and Dre, as they affectionately call each other, are there to support one another though some of the toughest periods of their lives. Having the loss of parents in common, they understand each other on a level that no one else in their lives can come close to experiencing. Neither time nor distance weakens their need to uphold one another. At times in their lives when they try to go beyond the bounds of friendship, life situations and unscrupulous people step in to keep them apart. Even when circumstances relent and allow them to transcend the friendship boundaries, the jealous, self-centered Carmin refuses to leave these two lovers alone.

When life reaches its lowest point and the bottom seems to drop out of their fragile vessel, Savannah and Dre all but give up hope of their love ever manifesting in a romantic relationship. Somehow, the resplendency of love refuses to be overshadowed. Things have a way of coming full circle to give all involved in this Bermuda love triangle the presents they justly deserve.

M.J. Abraham does a good job of developing the characters in this beautifully covered book. She lets readers see into the colorful and often glamorous South Floridian life style. Readers also get a nice glimpse of the college experience in Boston. The turns this plot takes are breathtaking and wrong on many levels. But, like all rough rides there is an ending point. For those who can endure the stress of the ride, the feelings that result at the end are their own rewards. Resplendent is a ride which does not disappoint.

Savannah Martinez and Andres Rivera have been friends since high school.
She knew him better than anyone else, and he was the only one she ever confided in.
Their friendship was the one brilliant thing they each cherished that wasn’t tarnished by outside forces that wanted them apart.
But fate wasn’t on their side. When she gave him the chance to turn their relationship into something more, he let her go.
Heartbroken and alone, she kept her distance in more ways than one. Now, years later, Savannah is back in town for good and Andres realizes just how empty his life has been without her.
When a secret comes to light, forcing a deeper wedge between them, Andres finds himself fighting for the only woman he has ever loved. Determined to fix the past and make things right, he will go to any length to prove to Savannah that they were meant to be together.
Will fate give them a second chance? Or will those secrets and betrayals ruin the one last chance Andres has of being with the woman of his dreams?
